Fourfields Community Primary

nurture provision

Here at Fourfields we are proud of our nurture offer. Our Nurture provision is the brainchild of Mrs Blyth as a response, in part, to the COVID crisis. It was recognised that some of our children were negatively affected by lockdown and found the transition back to school difficult or that they were not thriving in school.

Our school motto is SHINE with the N standing for Nurture. Fourfields is a school that provides an ever-evolving nurture provision. The school’s nurture timetable is as uniquely tailored to meet the needs of our pupils as identified by the staff they work with each day. Our staff are highly skilled and different members of staff across the school provide nurture provision linked to their own specialism and training.

There are 6 principles of Nurture:

  • Children's learning is understood developmentally.
  • The classroom offers a safe base.
  • Nurture is important for the development of self-esteem.
  • Language is understood as a vital means of communication.
  • All behaviour is communication.
  • Transitions are significant in the lives of children.

These activities form the current nurture provision at Fourfields:

  • The Rise and Shine Breakfast Club
  • Working with Brindley our therapy dog
  • Drawing and Talking
  • Specialist Forest School
  • Emotional Literacy (ELSA)
  • Attendance Support
  • Young Carers Support
  • Tailored Sports Coaching (YDP)
  • Starfish Mentoring
  • Emotional and Social Support
  • Lego Therapy

Therapeutic Thinking

As part of our approach to seeing behaviour as a form of communication (Nurture Principle) we use Therapeutic Thinking as a holistic and restorative process to support our children. Please see below for the guide.
